&amp;quot;Headstock on which the chuck is mounted, this also contains gearing for the lead screw and power feed shaft as well as gearing or belting for adjusting speeds.often on older lathes there is a counter shaft that provides for a greater range of speeds it is mounted between the motor and the headstock. Tailstock in which the dead or live center is mounted. carriage/apron houses the gears for manual and machine assisted movement of carriage/apron and cross slide. cross slide upon which the compound slide is mounted. compound slide where the tool holder is mounted. tool holder where the cutting tool is mounted. The lead screw is used for threading and drives the carriage from the head stock. The power feed shaft can be separate and drives the cross slide from the headstock. there may be a steady rest which is used for long parts to reduce the distance between supports to keep the turned part from flexing. the bed is the section that the headstock, carriage/apron, tail stock and steady rest mount on.&amp;quot;</description>
